The famous frank joint’s reopening in the spring of 2013 wasn’t just the unofficial start to summer—it was the comeback of the year. The Surf-and-Stillwell flagship—opened in 1916—was under six feet of floodwater just a few months earlier, and also fell victim to a fire this past May, but the warhorse trudged on, firing up the grills for sizzling hot dogs just in time for Memorial Day.
