There are many reasons to go to a club: music, atmosphere, dancing, to meet people, for good cocktails, to be seen or even just to get wasted. Java doesn't provide any of these. Coat check is 5Fr and drinks start at 10Fr for a standard bottled beer like Carlsberg, but the bar has no drink specialities and the cocktails are just thrown together in a glass - no style, no decoration. The music is hard to classify - slow dance? However, the speakers are generally small and mounted on the ceiling so it's loud but lacks bass. 3/4 of the club is sofas so I guess you don't go there to dance but if you're going there to drink then why not go somewhere where you can talk or where they have good drinks? It will certainly be cheaper. I guess it's a place to be spotted as one of Geneva's élite but Geneva is a small banking town, it isn't fashionable or trendy. Surely it's better to spend the entrance fee on a flight/train ticket to Paris, Zurich or Milan if you care about being seen. Clearly some people like it here - maybe they just spent a few years in a country where alcohol and dancing are forbidden?
